Abe Lincoln

Thank God he was who he was when he was.  For this country's sake.  I viewed the Lincoln film that Stephen Spielberg directed and who's story was adopted from Doris Kearns Goodwin's novel "Team of Rivals" - the Abe Lincoln political story.  The movie was a beautiful portrayal of Abe Lincoln.  Imagine, the REPUBLICAN party fighting for the end of slavery.  Fighting for the passing of the 13th Amendment to abolish slavery in the United States.  The Republican Party.  Do the Obama supporters and Democrats realize it was the Republican Party that fought to make this truth a reality in 1865?  Amazing.  Today millionaire politicians pull strings and argue about health care and taxes.  What if they were confronted with REAL life and death issues?  What if they had to debate Civil War and slavery and the death of hundreds of thousands of young Americans in Virginia and South Carolina?  Today, in our times, the Republican party is once again in desperate need of a person and character like Abe Lincoln.  The genuine article - bigger than life, compassionate and willing to listen to ALL people.  Adored and respected by ALL people.  Compassionate and intelligent were the key components that this movie celebrated in Abraham Lincoln.  He was interested and willing to negotiate and compromise and speak convincingly about something he was so passionate about:  Preserving & leading the United States of America. He was fitted for that time and that moment in our country's young life and we can only imagine what could have happened to this fragile country if he weren't there to lead us through that darkness.  The policial genius of Abraham Lincoln, and his compassion, will serve all of us and all time forever.
