The middle of the road

Many decisions are made by consensus.  When you build things by consensus, you can lose your distinctiveness.  Decision making requires trusting yourself, your process and your team, but it does start and end with your confidence in the decision and direction.  IF you allow a team of clients to push your product - they usually push it to the middle of the road.  It's safer there, especially in a corporate driven world.  Very safe.  But ask roadkill how safe it is in the middle of the road?  You can certainly get lost there and produce years of very average product.  IF you have a deep conviction or believe in something very strongly, then fight for it.  Push back.  Showcase your passion in a compelling debate and visualize your idea if necessary.  Some things in life are worth fighting for and going for.  Your job is to figure out which programs those are, and to push it into a very exciting, distinctive place, and out of the on-coming traffic in the middle of the road.
