The Dip

How is your career?  Your job?  Your school project?  Your golf game?  Retirement?  Have you entered a bit of a boring "dip" or perhaps even a cul-de-sac (French for 'deadend') in which you can't seem to get motivated to change or get out of ?  Seth Godin's book THE DIP, can help you address this FUNK.  Successful people don't just hunker down and ride out the dip.  They don't just try to survive it.  They lean into it.  Lean into it - hard.  They push through creating new boundaries and yes CHANGE the rules if they have to.  Thats the key to me.  Change the rules.  Change the dynamics, & start thinking and approaching projects AND clients in new ways - again.  What's that feel like?  Remember when you started?  Like that.  Wow. Soo cool and invigorating and rewarding.  Yep.   What steps can you take to lean into your dip?  Well start by working harder, change a habit and think different to change the rules or perspective and push through your dip.  Here is an important point.  IF you have to quit - by all means do so.  Quitting can lead to a new opportunity and a fresh perspective on work & life.  Knowing when you've reached a deadend is the key.  I'm not advocating quitting here - please don't run off and tell everyone Tommy is a quiter - nope I just don't want you slugging away in your DIP for too long - and yes you KNOW when that's taking place.  Now go push through your dip and thank you Seth Godin.
